Ministry Training Strategy (MTS)

St Andrew's Cathedral is a great place to train as a Ministry Apprentice. Our Ministry Training Strategy (MTS) is open to those who want to explore the idea of full-time ministry by training in an apprentice capacity for two years. This is a practical term where the apprentice is partnered with one or two key gatherings or ministries at the Cathedral and given exposure to different ministries, some theological thinking and interaction, experience in a wide range of ministry activities from evangelism, to one-2-one, to leading small groups, to helping in some of our large group ministries. The aim is that throughout the two years the apprentice will gain the opportunity to test their own thinking about Ministry in a long-term capacity and therefore make a wise and informed decision about whether they should continue on to Theological College and into formal ministry in the future.

Our current MTS Apprentices are:

An interview with Liz:

What are you mainly doing as an MTS trainee?

A wide variety of things: I am working with the 10.30 and the new 5pm congregations. Throughout the week I am meeting up with ladies to read the bible, I teach Christian Development at SACS as well as running lunchtime bible studies for yr 12 girls and helping run the primary school chapel. I help lead the cathedral's youth group and run creche for TAT. I also help at two bible study groups and at CBS on Tuesdays. I also have time being trained with Brian and the SAGA people with Phillip and also individually with Alison.

What do you hope to do in the future?

I would like to do ministry of some kind in the future. I am studying a Diploma of Education part time while doing MTS because I am interested in schools ministry - either chaplaincy, scripture teaching or Christian studies teaching. I would like to go to College too. This is the plan, if it's God's will.

How can we pray for you?

Pray that I will be disciplined in my quiet times, humble and teachable, and that I will grow in my ability to minister to people and love them faithfully.
