Student Ministers
In Sydney we are blessed to have some good Bible Colleges which prepare men and women well for ministry in many capacities. Theological training works best when partnered with a local church where the student can be serving in face to face ministry situations week in and out.
Our student ministers are working in partnership with one or more of our regular gatherings and ministries as befits what is best for their training.
Our current Student Ministers are:
Mark Baines
Mark comes to the Cathedral from St Philip’s Anglican, Eastwood. He is entering his second year of study at Moore College where he is studying for a B. Theology (Youth Ministry) and is very excited to be starting as a student minister at St Andrew’s. He loves spending time with his wife Jo and daughter Sarah, and growing in the Lord Jesus. He also quite enjoys Rugby, cooking (Mark is trained as a chef), singing, preaching and he plays games. All sorts.
Mark is very keen to be involved in Fix church and the Cathedral’s various youth ministries, as he has a passion for seeing young people come to know Christ Jesus as Lord!
Would you consider training as a Student Minister at St Andrew's Cathedral?
There are great opportunities for training for anyone interested.
- city location with active city ministry
- big church and small church formats which give the SM's a wider range of experience before leaving college
- firm theological and preaching convictions which would be very helpful for younger preachers
- access on occasion to Phillip Jensen
- breadth of ministries which cover a large demographic range.
- insight into some of the complexities of running ministries as a parish church as well as an official state ministry.
- partnership with the Conservatorium of Music through the Christians at the Con Group (for those musically able or interested).
- intent and opportunity to engage evangelistically to build the church and reach the city.
The student ministers position would require the person to be at church both morning and evening on Sunday's. Of course the Cathedral is in close proximity to Moore College and Sydney Missionary Bible College. The positions at this stage are unpaid positions.
